Popular Nigerian Human Rights Activists, Emeka Ugwuonye has been arrested by officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force. He was arrested on Friday at the Bar Beach Police Station, Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to the warrant of arrest, Emeka Ugwuonye a lawyer admitted to practice in both Nigeria and United States, was arrested on a charge of "Concealment." The news of his arrest was broadcast by one of the lawyers in his law firm in Nigeria; Eculaw & Co.

His arrest began in a combo gestapo-style, when officers of the Police Force believed to be from the Capital City of Abuja stormed the Lagos office of the Human Rights Activist, demanding that Emeka Ugwuonye be produced. As revealed by his colleague, the men from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigerian Police initially thought that Emeka was being hid in the office, at which time they threatened to "unleash mayhem in the office." However, after it was confirmed by the fierce looking officers that Emeka Ugwuonye was not in the office, they retreated.

While the presumed security personnel were ransacking the Eculaw & Co. offices at Victoria Island, some lawyers of the firm fearing that the so-called security personnel may be either kidnappers or assassins promptly made a report at the Police Station nearest to their offices, the Bar Beach Police Station, as well as prompting Emeka Ugwuonye who was at the time in Court carrying out his lawyering duties.

When the information got to Emeka, he contacted the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Bar Beach Station of the Nigerian Police who invited him to the station since the "intruders" were then at the Station where they identified themselves as police officers with the Criminal Investigation Department of the Police.

However, upon the arrival of Emeka to the Bar Beach Police Station, he was placed under arrest on the allegation of "Concealment," and taken into custody by the police officers, and later flown to Abuja.

Concealment is not a crime known to law in Nigeria. However, it is believed that Emeka Ugwuonye may have arrested in connection with the human rights crusade he has been piloting. He is the convener of the Due Process Group, with superb outlook on Facebook. He had at one point being denied exit from Nigeria by the Department of State Security on some phony allegation, but he found his way back to United States.

One of numerous human rights procedures Emeka was involved in was the representation of some villagers from the eastern part of Nigeria who were accused of being part of the agitators of the Biafra and thus plotting to foment violence in Nigeria. Emeka was able to lead a team of seasoned lawyers who got the case thrown out through a no case submission application.

His recent efforts were to unearth the culprits behind the gruesome murder of a lady known as Charity Aiyedigbon (Chacha). It is believed by many that his arrest is in connection with this particular venture. The actual intentions of the officers of the Nigerian Police for arresting him are still being speculated.
