Briton arrested for attempting to assassinate Donald Trump

Trump's attempted assailant, Michael Sandford
British teen, Michael Steven Sandford made a foiled attempt to assassinate the Republican Party Presumptive Nominee, Donald Trump at his rally in Las Vegas on Saturday. In the foiled attempt, the 19-year-old approached a Secret Service officer guarding the Presumptive Republican Nominee, while telling him of his intention to take the autograph of the Republican Party Nominee, made a brisk attempt for the agent’s service gun.
Instead of going for the signatures, he attempted to grab the service firearm of officer Ameel Jacob who promptly stopped him. He was consequently arrested and whisked out of the venue of the rally.

The 19-year old was at the time of his arrest carrying a British driver’s license and has been living illegally in the United States.
According to his confessional statement, he told Special Agent Swierkowski (first name omitted) that he had gone to a Las Vegas shooting the day before, Friday, to learn how to shoot. He told the Police that he went to the Battlefield Vegas shooting range on Friday, where he fired off about 20 rounds from a 9MM pistol in order to get accustomed to the functions of the pistol, the kind carried by Secret Service agents.
His intention, as he confessed, was to do his best to kill Donald Trump. And he was determined to Kill Trump.
At the Treasure Island, Las Vegas rally, he went for Agent Ameel Jacob’s weapon because it appeared to be in an unlocked position, thus making it the easiest weapon to grab, since no guns were allowed into any Donald Trump’s rally. But the Secret Service agent was alert to stop the British from having access to his service gun.
He was on Monday arraigned before a US District Court in Nevada on a one count charge of “act of violence on restricted grounds”. According to the court-papers, Michael “Sandford claimed he had been planning to attempt to kill Trump for about a year but decided to act on this occasion because he finally felt confident to do it.”
The papers further read that Sandford claimed that “he would try this again” if he were on street tomorrow. In fact, Sandford had in his possession entry ticket to Trump’s rally in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday as a back-up plan if the Treasure Island failed.
It appeared that Trump did not have any inkling of what transpired between the Secret Service agents and the British.

It has however been revealed that the suspect has a medical record of obsessive compulsive disorder and anorexia according to his mother’s testimony to a Federal Magistrate Judge, George Foley.
