Senator Dino Melaye wants to be the President of Nigeria

Dino and Tinubu
The Nigerian Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District was quoted saying on Thursday that he wants to be the President of Nigeria. The Senator made the statement while addressing members of the press on the issues regarding the outburst between him and Senator Oluremi Tinubu on the floor of the "Red Chambers".

According to the controversial senator, "every human being can have ambition. It is not a crime to be ambitious." He then went further to state that "Saraki had the ambition of becoming the Senate President" the same way President Muhammadu Buhari is ambitious ("that is why he contested for the presidency four times.").

In his own case, Senator Dino Melaye confirmed that he is also ambitious that he "even wants to be the President of Nigeria".

The above statement is fallout from the news deafening the media space of Nigeria that Senator Melaye threatened to "beat up and impregnate" Senator Oluremi Tinubu. In his reaction, the Senator representing Kogi West constituency noted that Senator Remi is blowing what happened on the floor of the Senate out of proportion, which he stated was made out of spite for his role in ensuring Saraki's victory as the President of the Nigerian Senate. He referred to the stories circulating the Nigerian media as "blackmail, lies and "
planted stories just to disparage the person and personality of Dino Melaye".

In order to dispel the logic of the allegation, Senator Melaye asked "how could I have said I would beat up and impregnate her at the same time?" Noting as well that the Lagos State Senator is already into menopause.

The scenario that is currently playing out in the media began at the floor of the Senate when the senators were debating on how to ensure that the Nigerian Senate remains united at the wake of the trial of the Senate President and Deputy Senate President for forgery. Melaye urged the senate not to allow the executive to destabilize the legislature by the forgery case of Senate President Saraki and Deputy Senate President Ekweremadu. He requested that no senator should serve as prosecution witness in the criminal trial.

However, some factions in the Senate of which Senator Tinubu is privy to attributed the debate to a plot to impeach the President of Nigeria. Senator Tinubu being vociferous in her defence of the President referred to Senator Melaye as a "thug [that] must be tamed" as well as calling him a "dog" which irked the Kogi Senator who lambasted her. In reaction, Dino Melaye responded by saying "she must be stupid", noting that he is not one of the Senators that prostrate before her and her husband Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

He however denied ever physically attacking Senator Tinubu.
