Canadians across the world celebrate "CANADA DAY!!!"

Canada Day
Hurray!!! The high-point of the Summer season is here again. It is the day all Canadians exhibit patriotism and profess their love for the peace-loving Canada. It is Canada Day.

The day marks the "amalgamation" of the three colonies into a single country called Canada under the guidance of Her Imperial Majesty, the Queen of England and head of the Canadian State.

On the Ist day of July, 1867, the colonies of Novas Scotia (ceded to the British Empire by the French), Provinces of Canada and the colonies of New Brunswick were combined as one self-identifiable entity. This unification marked the beginning of the statehood of Canada. However, the land mass and sea territorial sovereignty were less than what is today known as Canada.

While the unification took place at this period, the Colonies of Prince Edward and British Columbia as well as Newfoundland were not countenanced as part of the "old Canada". Also not initially part of the enclave were the areas now referred to as Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Yukon Territory and Newfoundland.

Between 1870 and 1946, the territory of Canada doubled, if not tripled. The colonies of Prince Edward and British Columbia were annexed to Canada in 1873, in what was a covert move to prevent United States from annexing the territory in order to link the other part of United States with the State of Alaska (then a newly purchased territory from Russia). Other territories such as Manitoba, 1870, Alberta and Saskatchewan, 1905, the three territories of Canada (the Northwest, Yukon and Nunavut) , in 1898. The people of Newfoundland in a widely held referendum opted to join the "Confederation" in 1946 thus completing the full cycle.

Although process of Canada's statehood began in 1867, it continued it allegiance to Her Imperial Majesty, the Queen of England. And not until 1982 was all the vestiges of British control over Canada was removed. However, the Queen of England or her successor remains the ceremonial head of the State of Canada, though not in her capacity as the Queen of England but as a distinct person represented by the Governor-General.

The rest of Canada's evolution is now history as the country holds its position as one of the most peace-loving countries on earth.

HAPPY CANADA DAY
