An Ontario Superior Court overturns the decision of the Ford-led Ontario provincial government to slash Toronto city size to 25, from 46. While we are not yet in possession of the ruling, reports are that the court sided with Toronto city argument that the decision was undemocratic and unconstitutional.

The decision may not be final, given that the province still has the option to appeal the decision at the Court of Appeal. It would, however, need the leave of the Court of Appeal to do so. The decision is the second successful legal challenge against Doug Ford's Ontario government, following the successful challenge by Tesla of Doug Ford's electric car rebates policy that excluded the Tesla brand.

In our last op-ed, we discussed and gave our opinion on the decision of the Ford-led Ontario government to slash the size of Toronto city council from 46 councilors to 25. The decision was met with mixed reaction from politicians and citizens alike. On the one part, the decision was welcome as a much needed avenue for financial respite, as the expected cut would also free up about 4 million dollars. On the other hand, however, critics argued that the decision was undemocratic given that it was taken just few weeks to the city election and without regard to popular opinion.
