Walmart Canada discontinues the use of Visa cards (Credit Cards) at its point of sale (POS) payments

Walmart Visa "Merchant Fees" bickering
Following the bickering between Walmart and Visa Inc. over merchant fees, Walmart is now threatening to ban Visa credit cards from its stores across the country.

In a statement released by Walmart Canada, due to the "unacceptably" excessive merchant fees charged by Visa on transactions paid by Visa credit cards, as of July 18, 2016 the cards shall cease to be effective at its stores in Ontario, precisely at Thunder Bay, with a possible extension of the ban at its locations across Canada.

Speaking to CBC News, Walmart lamented that "We believe Visa's fees should be lower for everyone, whether they are a large retailer, small retailer or a charity," adding that "Canadians deserve better than paying a hidden fee that is four times higher than consumers pay in other countries."

It appears that Walmart is using its customers as a pawn in the "Merchant fees" war. Definitely the two multinationals would loose from the bickering, but the ultimate burden shall be borne by the innocent customers who depend mostly on Walmart for their groceries.

This is a concern intimated by officials of Visa Inc. "Walmart is unfairly dragging millions of Canadian customers into the middle of a business disagreement that can and should be resolved between our companies," Visa wrote on Thursday. The financial institution further accused Walmart of "using their size and scale to give themselves an unfair advantage."
