Nigeria: Fulani Herdsmen Attack Officers of the Nigerian Armed Force

Fulani Herdsmen

Information reaching our stables reveal that there is currently a clash between the dreaded Fulani Herdsmen and the Nigerian Military Force.

According to the report, the nomadic cattle rustlers attacked the patrol van of the Military joint patrol team at Madaci in Faskari LGA of Kastina, killing one soldier and seriously injuring another Thursday.

The Kastina State Commissioner of Police, Usman Abdullahi, confirmed this incident noting that the rustlers ambushed the van of the soldiers while they were on patrol.

This incident further credits the suspicion that the Fulani Herdsmen are terrorists, who under the guise of rustling engage in indiscriminate killing. Initially, their activities were restricted to the Middle Belt region of Nigeria, where they have constantly engaged with local farmers in what was believed to be a hassle over grazing land. However, following the spread of their violence from  Agatu, Kogi and then to some parts of south east, especially Enugu State and Anambra, speculations are rife that the cattle rustlers are indeed terrorists.

According to the Global Terrorism Index of 2015, the Fulani Herdsmen were listed atop 5 most dangerous terrorist group in world, sitting just below ISIS, Boko Haram, and Al-shabab. As such placing Nigeria among the top 10 most hit countries by terrorism. Despite the reports about the ferocity of this organization, the government had not spoke out against them nor made any comment referencing them. However, it is expected that this recent fisticuffs between the Military and the terrorist groups may lead to a concerted military effort to flush out these "packs of scavenging animals" in human skins.
