Today's attack on the National Assembly by Men of the Department of State Security

Nigerians woke up today to the news of armed and masked men of the Department of State Security interfering in the legislative functions of the National Assembly by blocking the entrance to the National Assembly and preventing parliamentarians from engaging in their constitutional duties.

This event is a culmination of a series of events that began some weeks back following the defection of some senators elected under the APC political party platform to PDP and the eventual defection of the Senate President himself, Mr. Saraki. These events may have irked members of the ruling party which resulted in an  attempt to use the DSS to force a change of leadership at the National Assembly today.

However, just as the attempt to prevent Mr. Saraki from presiding over the Senate's session where the defection was announced, public outcry against the security outfit invasion of the National Assembly prevented them from effecting their hatched plans.

In a save-face attempt, the acting president, Mr. Osinbajo has directed that the director general of DSS be removed with immediate effect. It is being reported that the said former director general is currently being held in Abuja.

Nigeria's democracy has been in constant attack!!!
