Amid mixed reaction within, Austrian legislatures have banned niqab and burqua wearing in public, such as in hospitals, schools and public transports. Thus, beginning from October, the Police is authorized to fine anyone seen flouting the new law. The law also requires migrants to carry out unpaid social work for the State and attend integration courses which will be taught in German for a year in order to learn the values and ethics of the country and properly fit into their new society.

The new legislature is however met with mixed reactions as over 3000 Muslim women have protested against the niqab banning which received the support of both the ruling . On the other hand, both the ruling party, Social Democratic party (SPÖ), and one of the opposition parties, Austrian People’s party (ÖVP) fully support the law, while a far-right opposition party FPÖ criticised the government for not imposing stricter measures.
