A.B Mahmoud wins the Nigerian Bar Association Presidency

In a keenly contested election between two highly respected members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. A.B Mahmoud defeated his opponent to win the presidential election of, arguably, the most respected association in Nigeria.

The election which for the first time saw qualified members of the Bar voting online garnered a total of 6439 valid votes, of which 3055 votes were cast in favor of the learned Senior Advocate of Nigeria, while his only opponent in the presidential race J.K Gadzama SANA secured 2384 votes. The results saw Messr. A.B Mahmoud coasting to victory with a difference of 671 votes. With his election, the gentleman of the Bar would steer the affairs of the Association for two years beginning from 2016, taking over from the ebullient Augustine Alegeh, SAN.

Mr. A.B Mahmoud, SAN (OON) practices out of the Law Firm of Dikko & Mahmoud which was established in November 1993 with offices in Kano State and Abuja. 

Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, LL.M, SAN obtained his Bachelors in Laws (LL.B) degree from Ahmadu Bello University in 1979 and was called to the Nigerian Bar as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1980. After his call to the Nigerian Bar, he began his professional life at Kano State Ministry of Justice and rose to become the Attorney General and Commission of Justice of the state. After his tenure as the AG/ Commissioner of Justice, he then established the Law Firm of Dikko & Mahmoud  in 1993. He is also the 2nd Vice President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

Mahmoud shall be bringing to bear his experience in public administration as he takes over the leadership of Nigeria's strongest interest group: the Nigerian Bar Association.
