Serena has already being fined $10,000 in the ongoing Wimbledon 2016 Open after destroying her racket in the first set of her match with compatriot Christina McHale. Although the No. 1 seeded female tennis star coasted home with a victory against Christina McHale after a three-set match (6-7, 6-2, 6-4), she lost the first set to Christina 6-7 (7) to her disappointment.
After losing the first set, Serena Williams apparently was frustrated, thus slammed her racket against the ground while returning to her seat before throwing it backward. However, she narrowly missed a cameraman.
In reaction to the "unsportsmanlike" attitude, Serena Williams was fined $10,000.
Williams stated after the match that she expected the fine. In fact, she joked about her history of destroying rackets.
"I have cracked a number of rackets throughout my career," the William sister said.
"I've gotten fined a number of times for cracking rackets. In fact, I look at it like I didn't crack one at the French Open or Rome, so I was really good. I don't want to go too long without cracking a racket," Serena Williams boasted.
In the Australian Open, 2013, Serena was fined $1,500 for destroying a racket. A year later at the WTA (Singapore) 2014 finals with Caroline Wozniacki, Serena also smashed her racket after losing a point to Caroline. And she boasted after the match that the "that racket will never do me wrong again." She said she was not "proud" of her conduct though. She was not fined however.
In Toronto for Roger 2015 Cup (WTA), Serena destroyed a racket after losing the second set of the semi finals to Belinda Bencic. Later at US 2015 Open, Serena destroyed her racket too in a match she lost 2-6 6-4 6-4 to Roberta Vinci.
Also in the 2016 finals of the Indian Well championship against Azarenka, Serena Williams continued with her racket breaking streak by destroying her racket midway into the match while losing to Azarenka in the 2nd set.
