Kachikwu removed as NNPC boss

In a statement released by the President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari through his Special Adviser on Media, Femi Adesina, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu has been removed as the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The removal of Dr. Kachikwu who before now doubled as the Minister for Petroleum (State) was pursuant to the provisions  Section 1(2) of NNPC Act 1997 which gives the President the power to appoint the members of the Board of Directors of the national corporation. Dr. Maikanti Kaealla Baru is appointed to take over the jobs of Dr. Kachikwu as the Group Managing Director, while Kachikwu remains as the Chairman of the corporation.

According to the statement, the Board of Directors of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation is composed thus:

Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Chairman (Also the Minister of State for Petroleum)
Dr. Maikanti Kaella Baru, the Managing Director
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance
Mallam Abba Kyari, Director
Dr. Thomas M.A John, Director
Dr. Pius O. Akinyelure, Director
Dr. Tajuddeen Umar, Director
Mallam Mohammed Lawal, Director
