"Ten people (the death toll has risen to more than 28 persons) have been killed according to a preliminary toll. According to the information I was given, a terrorist at the international terminal entrance first opened fire with a Kalashnikov and blew himself up," the Justice Minister says.

Although no terrorist group has taken responsibility for the attack yet, it is suspected however that the trio were working for a wider network of either one of the dreaded terrorists groups: PKK or ISIS, and specifically targeted the international wing of the Ataturk Airport due to the enormity of fatality that will result therefrom.
According to Bozdag, one of the attackers opened fire at the entrance of the airport which prompted a response from the Police. However, once the terrorists got to the checking point, one of them detonated a bomb which instantly killed him and other persons nearby. The other terrorist was then shot dead by police.
The third party however blew up himself in the parking lots.

The terrorist actually targeted the security checking point because of the crowd of persons who usually queue up to gain entrance into the airport. However, there are suspicions that the attack was in connection with Turkey's amendment with the State of Israel.
Within this month, Turkey has been amending its relations with some countries including Russia and Israel, and possible irked some fundamentalists in the Middle that disdain Israel. Most terrorist groups view Israel in contempt, hence the possible connection.
