Pedro Kuczynski had once served as an executive at World Bank, and later the Prime Minister of Peru had been a political figure in Peru where he also served a the Minister for Finance and Energy. He had earlier contested for the presidency in 2011, but lost to the incumbent, Humala Ollanta due to the enormous campaign propaganda made out of his refusal to renounce his American citizenship.
His main rival in the election is the daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori, who led Peru for decade from 1990-2000, but was found guilty of corruption and human rights abuse and sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2009. He, however, still retains the legacy of restoring stability in the Peruvian economy.
Apparently his daughter leveraged on this legacy to woo the votes of the electorates, but failed short of securing the winner after the run-off election that saw her trailing Kuczynski by 49.9% of valid votes counted. Evidently, while Keiko Fujimori leveraged on his father's past achievements in the economic sector of the country, Kuczynski capitalized on her father's imprisonment on corrupt charges to discredit her credentials. He warned, at the build-up of the election, that if Keiko Fujimori is elected president, she would continue in the ways of her father. And as such, reinvent corruption into the polity of the Peruvian system.

At the end, it was Kuczynski's propaganda that paid off, as he becomes elected by what Keiko described as "promoters of hate". However, in conceding defeat, Keiko Fujimori has vowed to lead a "watchful" opposition, while conceding to defeat "in a democratic spirit".
Meanwhile, the President-elect, Kuczynski, thanked the electorate through his Twitter account.
"Thank you Peru, it is time to work together for our country"
