Britain in shock over the death of Jo Cox who was gruesomely murdered

UK opposition Labour Party member of the Parliament, Jo Cox was Thursday gruesomely murdered while she was meeting with her constituents in her electoral district, West Yorkshire in the build up of the Brexit campaign.

According to an eye witness, the young and enthusiastic lawmaker was beaten on the street by a potentially deranged man, stabbed and then shot, leaving her dead in the pool of her blood in front of Birstall library, West Yorkshire. She was pronounced dead at 1.48 pm (GMT) by a doctor who worked with the paramedics that rapidly responded to emergency calls.

Announcing the death of the "great star" was West Yorkshire Police chief, Dee Collins who stated that "Jo was attacked by a man who inflicted serious and, sadly, ultimately fatal injuries." She further noted that a 52-year old had been arrested in connection with the murder as a number of weapons and firearms were recovered from him. Her killing happened just before 1.00 pm, making it the first of serving lawmaker in about 25 years to be murdered.

Her death has dulled the Brexit referendum with the Labour Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn saying moments later that her death has left everyone "in shock". The Labour leader paid his tribute by noting that "Jo had a lifelong record of humanity and a deep commitment to humanity."
"Jo died doing her public duty at the heart of our democracy, listening to and representing the people she was elected to serve," he said.
Although there is no official confirmation as to the motive behind the murder, but according to Guardian Newspaper, the murderer shouted "Britain first" while he shot the lawmaker. This thus raises the suspicion that the murder may be in connection with the upcoming referendum of 23 June on whether Britain should stay or leave the European Union (Brexit). However, the West Yorkshire police is "not in a position to discuss any motive."

"Britain First" is a national campaign organization that have been vociferous in the Brexit campaign. However, Ko Cox was an ardent supporter of Britain staying in EU  and had been campaigning to see that the Brexit votes are defeated.

The Prime Minister of Britain has paid his tribute to the slain lawmaker, calling her a "great star". While announcing the suspension of any campaign in relation to the Brexit, David Cameron said that "Jo was a great campaigning MP with huge compassion and a big heart."
