Nigeria: PDP Fires Ali Modu Sheriff, Appoints Makarfi As Interim Chairman; Obi as Secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sacked it's current Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff.  This took place hours after Sheriff made announcement of the postponment of the National Convention.

The National Working Committee Of The Party was dissolved Saturday, after the delegates decided to go ahead with the convention despite the announcement made earlier of it being postponed.

Ahmed Makarfi, who was the former governor of Kaduna State and Senator Obi, former Senator from Anambara State were appointed to take over as Chairman and Secretary respectively.  Other members appointed into the new working committee included Senator Ugbesia, Prince Dayo Adeyeye,  Aisha Aliyu, Senator Abdul Ningi and Barister Usman Kabir.

In attendance of the Convention were the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; Former Senate President, David Mark; All PDP State Governors; Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio and a host of other high ranking party Chiefs.

The new Working Committe members were sworn in immediately.
