Madonna is hitting back at BET after a controversial (since-deleted) tweet from the network seemed to criticize the singer's tribute to Prince at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.
"Wearing the jacket Prince gave me back in the day without permission from BET. . lol! God Bless America," the singer posted to Instagram on Saturday, sharing a photo of herself wearing a floral jacket and hat.

Madonna's post comes after BET tweeted (and later deleted) an advertisement for their own Prince tribute during the May 22 BBMA ceremony. "Yeah, we saw that," the tweet began, referencing Madonna's performance ahead of plugging a similar tribute set to take place June 26 at the BET Awards. "Don't worry. We got you."
Madonna followed up her first Instagram with a photo of herself wearing sunglasses, writing: "I Will Shade You. hahahhahahahhahah."
BET has since responded to Madonna's post. "Unfortunately, witty as this tweet is, it can't turn back the clock on a performance that failed to cover the various roles and stages of the legend's career," BET's Evelyn Diaz wrote in an article posted Sunday morning.
The 57-year-old has endured a barrage of criticism following her performance at the BBMAs, where she took to the stage to sing a cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U," the 1990 hit written by the late pop star but popularized by Sinead O'Connor.
Madonna then launched into a performance of "Purple Rain" alongside Stevie Wonder. A petition on Change.org began circulating prior to the event itself, with more than 8,000 signatories urging Billboard to find a "better choice as a main performer" in place of Madonna.
Madonna previously defended her tribute to Prince on social media, writing: "Anyone who wants to do a tribute to Prince is welcome to. Whatever your age Gender or skin Color. If you loved him and he inspired you then show it!!!! I love Prince 4 ever" on Instagram.
Several celebrities have also voiced support for the Queen of Pop since the performance aired, including GloZell Green, who tweeted "Yaw'l do know that @Madonna has made a living by not caring about what you think" shortly after the ceremony.
Wendy Williams told petitioners to "please have several seats" on a May 17 episode of her talk show, while The Roots' Questlove also came to Madge's defense, tweeting a series of messages criticizing fans' angry reactions to the performance.
"So I know there is gonna be A LOT of 'feel a certain ways' about who you want to see do his music justice, but you gotta put that aside y'all... Every Prince rendition will not be a life changing orgasmic [experience]. Just to SING his work is brave enough," he wrote. "Again feeling are on high, and EVERYBODY wants and deserves a chance to say goodbye in their own way. But remember: there will be AMAs, SoulTrain, NAACP, mtv, GRAMMYS, and a gazillion other tributes. But the point is let's not get ugly with playing the 'Prince would and wouldn't approve' game."
