The gun was said to have been put in a private auction which had only seven verified bidders and reportedly sold for more than $120,000.
The United Gun Group auction website put the gun back on sale after several failed attempts to auction off the gun, but added a private verification email process to filter people who are trying to shut down the gun's sale.
In a series of blog posts, Zimmerman wrote:
“I recognize the purchaser’s ownership and right to do with the firearm as they wish.
I would like to thank Todd Underwood and UnitedGunGroup.com for their moral fortitude in hosting my firearm auction. I would also like to thank all members of UnitedGunGroup for their support and words of encouragement.
At this time, the auction with United Gun Group is closed. The process of notifying the winning bidder will begin immediately. The winning bidder will ultimately decide if they want their information to be maintained in confidentiality”.
