Raymond Omatseye, who was the NIMASA Director-General has been sentenced to 5 year imprisonment. The verdict took place at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. Omatseye is being tried for N1.5 billion contract scam. He was arraigned before the court friday on a 27 count charge bordering on contract racketeering, bid rigging, and awarding of contract above his approval limit while in office.
The former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration And Safety Agency was also said to have awarded contracts way above the threshold of the agency, and also awarding contracts to the highest bidder, and not those pre-qualified for a contract.
