Breaking News: El Chapo to be extradited to U.S to face drug charges, as Mexico Foreign Ministry approves US request

Drug lord, El Chapo

Mexican drug lord, El Chapo would be extradited to the United States to face charges bordering on narcotics and murder. This process comes as the Mexican Foreign Ministry Monday approved the request of the United States for the extradition of the convicted drug lord.
According to Mexican laws, he has 30 days to appeal the decision, as one of his lawyers have confirmed the move in order to prevent his extradition.

Although the extradition request has been approved, it would ordinarily take months before the process will be completed. However, with the preparedness of El Chapo's lawyers to challenge the decision, it is expected that the process could further be delayed as no process could be commenced until the resolution of legal appeals against the decision.

The decision to extradite Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman had been anticipated following the April transfer of El Chapo to a border along the Mexican/US border, close to the State of Texas.

Many States in the United States have investigated the drug lord with respect to the massive importation of narcotics, marijuana, methamphetamine and cocaine into the States through his Sinaloa drug cartel. Some of the states include the State of New York, California, Texas and Illinois. He is however expected not to face any capital offence charge since it is against the Mexican law to extradite any Mexican to face capital offence charges in other countries.

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman had twice escaped from two Mexican prisons since his conviction.
