Popular Nigerian Blogger, Linda Ikeji, Commits Grammatical Blunder

Linda Ikeji

Linda Ikeji has been a phenomenon in the world of Nigerian bloggers, as she represents the success story of blogging in Nigeria.

However, she showed the fallibility of most users and speakers of English language when she ran foul of an elementary rule of the language. As a result of her blogger-celebrity status however, this error did not go unnoticed as some persons clung and capitalized on the mistake.

In one of the reactions to Linda Ikeji's grammatical blunder, a Nigerian responded to her tweet (the origin of the blunder) thus:

"So, Linda Ikeji cannot construct a simple English language sentence, but lives in her own mansion in Banana Island? God take all my grammar and give me cash. Who English language epp? Dead Corpse Ko? Living coffin ni?"

As is typical of bloggers and media outfits, in order to promote a news item and garner readership, links to such posts are shared on some social media platforms for quicker reach to their followers and supporters. This was what Linda Ikeji intended to achieve when she tweeted; "Senator's corpse found dead in a pond behind his home in Ebonyi". It however opened her up to criticisms, and caricatures.

Below are some of the reactions to her grammatical blunder

However, not only did she make the mistake in her tweet, she also committed the same blunder in the title of the blogpost. She has since corrected the error, but traces of the mistake still exist as the permalink to the post still reads :"senators-corpse-found-dead-in-pond"

This is not the first time the graduate of English language from a famous Nigerian university, University of Lagos, would come under scrutiny. Besides her recent controversy with a popular Nigerian singer, Ayo Balogun, Wizkid, she had in the past incurred the anger of some Nigerian socialites as a result of some of posts on her blog which started as a gossip blog before its recent transformation into a full blown news blog. Also, her purported statement about "being so rich that she can buy any man" sprang tremendous controversy too, just as her new found habit of flaunting her riches online.

Notwithstanding these controversies, the trailblazing blogger, Linda Ikeji, has carved a niche for herself that her mistakes were even copied verbatim by other Nigerian bloggers who never detected the error as they furthered their "copying and pasting" blogging mannerism.

Anyways, corpse cannot be found dead again, as Linda Ikeji had since corrected herself. In the meantime, below is a link to the story that caused the brouhaha.
